Childhood abuse

Edwin has a vast set of experiences in the helping field spanning over three decades. He has supervised groups homes for the intellectually disabled, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, led church youth groups, and sponsored teen drug prevention programs. Ed served for more than 20 years in the United States Coast Guard and retired with an honorable discharge as a Chief Aviation Survival Technician and Helicopter Rescue Swimmer. Ed served as both a lay pastor and an ordained pastor in local churches between 2005-2017 before returning to graduate school to study social work.

  • Ed has always enjoyed working with people in one on one or small group settings. After graduating from seminary in 2013 with a Master of Religious Education (MRE) he decided to pursue his passion for supporting those who have experienced trauma. Pursuing this dream, he graduated from Florida State University with a Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2019 and continues as a fierce advocate for his clients as a Clinical Certified Trauma Specialist (CCTS-I) obtained from the Arizona Trauma Institute.

Ed approaches his role as a clinical social worker with humility and understanding that regardless of a person’s status or background, trauma affects each person uniquely. Ed ensures that the client is heard and validates their experience, because it is hard enough to come to session without fear of judgement or shame. Ed works from the client-perspective, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as his primary model and values feedback from the client.

Ed is a member of the leadership team at River’s Edge Counseling and oversees a unique opportunity to work within Clay County schools to provide the Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) Program. Ed sees clients at the Knight Boxx office and sees clients in all age groups.
